Junior Samantha Thum placed first in the VFW Voice of Democracy district competition, which includes schools from Fulton County north to Mercer County and west to the river. She is the first student out of the local level to win the contest and advance to the state level of the competition. She will attend a banquet in Springfield, Illinois in February to compete in the state contest. The contest includes an oral presentation based on a theme provided by the Veterans of Foreign Wars organization. This year's theme was "What are the Greatest Attributes of our Democracy?" Good luck, Samantha!
